The Calling Of Motherhood.
The role of Motherhood has been redefined over the years. In the earlier days Mothers were expected to stay at home and tend to their families and husbands. Although much has changed as the years have gone by there are still so many women and Mothers out there who desire to look after their families and raise their child(ren) according to God’s standards. When God created Adam, He decided that Adam would need Eve. Eve was a help mate for Adam and the Mother of His children. Her purpose was evident.
“And the Lord God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him.” - Genesis 2:18.
“And the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and He took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof; and the rib, which the Lord God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man. And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man. Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.”
Genesis 2:21-24.
These scriptures are clear in stating that God did not create Adam to be alone. He wanted Adam to have companionship hence why He created Eve. God knows the importance of companionship and interaction with others. He does not desire for any of His children to be alone. Godly friendships and healthy relationships are something God takes pleasure in for two are better than one.
When I was much younger, I desired to have a specific career, to travel and to have Godly fun with my loved ones. I was particularly focused on climbing the career ladder and then aspiring to be a manager of my own establishment. As I have grown and matured, I am so comfortable with my life right now and the calling God has placed upon me. I feel that many aspire to attain a particular career and there is nothing wrong with that, but for me personally, following Christ, looking after my daughter, writing and pursuing my dream career is what brings me so much joy. We still get to travel and we still get to have fun together and with our loved ones, none of that has changed, but being a Mother means that you put your family first – always.
“She looketh well to the ways of her household, And eateth not the bread of idleness.” - Proverbs 31:27.
I love to use the biblical role model of the Proverbs 31 woman to encourage me to do better as a woman and as a Mother. There are so much amazing qualities and characteristics this wonderful woman possesses that helps me to look at how I can do things differently within my home, with my daughter and with my loved ones. There are many amazing examples of women and Mothers within the bible who are Godly role models. Many faith filled women who made a difference within their child(ren’s) lives and the lives of those around them.
Motherhood is such a precious gift, it is a wonderful calling that God has placed upon your life. It is a honour to be able to raise the next generation according to God’s will. It is something to be so very proud of. Your role is vital in the lives of your child(ren) for through you, your child(ren) will learn, flourish and thrive. Your prayers will help to sustain them and your faith will encourage them by showing them the way; God’s way. It is a blessing to see your child(ren) kneeling down beside you and praying together. It truly warms my heart every evening and throughout the day when I pray and my daughter joins in. To hear her beautiful little voice reaching out to God and sharing her hearts desires and her thoughts lets me know that I am doing a good job.
I recall someone once asking me how I would feel if she decided to depart from God’s ways when she is older and although a valid question I wondered why someone would think of such a thing. In my family we all know and love God. We were never pressured to follow God or to attend church. We did so willingly. My daughter loves God because of who He is and the important role He plays within her life. At her very young age she has been able to see His mighty hands at work in her life and the lives of others. She has seen God work in miraculous ways. She has seen God do much for her and for those in her little life. I have every confidence that my daughter will continue to grow loving and knowing the Lord. Her name alone is a dedication to the Most High. This is why it is important to plant the seeds in your child’s hearts now, allow them to have a clear understanding of who God is, so that as they grow they will never stray from Him.
What will you do with the call of Motherhood that God has placed upon your life?
With Love,
Roxanne-Sasha x
