8 Ways To Combat The Tiredness Struggle
1. Get active!
I know that seems like a funny thing to say especially when you feel drained, but according to research physical exercise helps to boost your energy levels.
2. Multivitamins.
Taking vitamins help your body to get the vitamins and minerals needed in your diet.
3. Time for a check-up?
A check-up will put your mind at rest because you can do a blood test and know what is going on with your body.
4. Ensure you are getting enough rest.
Put your phone down (turn it off if you must or you can put it on silent), have a relaxing bath and tuck into bed with a good book. Limit any distractions around your bedtime to enable you to sleep soundly. If you think a lot, get a piece of paper and write down what is on your mind completely emptying your thoughts.
5. Drink plenty of water.
Dehydration is another sign of tiredness. Put down the coffee as this is a temporary solution for a permanent problem and pick up a nice, cold glass of water.
6. Ditch the junk!
Eating junk food can strip the body of nutrients. An easy way to incorporate your 5 a day into your daily diet is by having a portion of fruit for breakfast, 2 portions of fruit or vegetables for lunch and then 2 portions with your dinner.
Consider swapping white bread, white rice and so forth for wholemeal bread and brown rice.
Replace cakes and sweet treats with fruit, nuts and yoghurts.
Indulge in healthy snacks.
Cook with olive oil rather than vegetable oil and sunflower oil.
Take healthy snacks to work and on the go with you.
Avoid sugary, carbonated drinks.
Aim to incorporate more seafood into your diet. Try to eat 1-2 portions of oily fish per week.
Try to bake, steam, poach or grill your meals, avoiding fried meals where possible.
Create fun salads for yourself to eat, who says salad has to be boring?!
7. Nap.
If you feel tired and you need to have a nap, then by all means have one. Think about it like this, when a car needs petrol can the car keep going? No, it cannot because eventually it will stop moving. You need to rest when you feel like resting. Understandably this may not be possible if you are a full time working mum, but when you get in and once the children are settled take some time to yourself to relax.
8. Stop taking on too much!
Practice saying “no.” You do not have to attend every social event, you do not have to do anything you do not have the energy to go to. It is not too late to cancel any plans you may have either. Go with what your body tells you. If you are bombarded with work already, then there is no harm in saying “I cannot do this, I am doing enough already.” You are one human and you are one Mama – a Super Mama at that, but even she needs to have a rest sometimes.
