10 Ways To Demonstrate Love During Christmas

There is just something about Christmas that makes people become happier. I always feel as if there is something in the air because everyone suddenly appears to be on Cloud 9! Growing up Christmas was always one of my favourite times of the year - naturally. I love spending the holidays with my family; hearing the constant echoes of laughter, watching our little ones smiling from ear to ear as they open their presents, the delicious food and just generally being surrounded by love. However, not everyone is fortunate enough to experience such pleasures for various reasons and Christmas can actually be a bittersweet time for them. I often think about those who are less fortunate than myself, those without families, those without homes and those who are suicidal. I have come up with 10 different ways that we can all demonstrate love during the Christmas holidays and beyond!

You can support them by donating gifts and toys for children.

Suggested Gift List for Children and Young People: (taken from here.)

We believe every child deserves a new gift at Christmas, so we are unable to take used or second-hand items for the Christmas Present Appeal.

2. Send out some gratitude cards.

4. Donate some of your unwanted things to local charities.

Charities are always grateful to receive unwanted items because they can be sold on to raise money for a great cause. Have a rummage through your wardrobe and see what you can find. Do your children have clothes they have grown out of? What about that bag sitting at the back of your wardrobe - are you ever going to use it?!

5. Help someone with their shopping.

If you know of anyone who is less able to go out and do their own shopping, lend them a helping hand where you can.

6. Pay for someones meal.

This is a really nice thing to do and it is even better when the individual does not expect it.

7. Visit a retirememnt home.

Spend some time with them, read them stories, dance with them or play games with them. Elderly people often have nobody to sit with them during the days, but you could make a big difference by dedicating some of your time to keeping them company.

8. Fundraising.

Have you ever thought of doing a cake sale or what about a talent show?! You can look up some local charities or causes and fundraise for either. People like to know what they are supporting as it makes it more official.

9. Bless a homeless person with a meal.

Do you know how many times a homeless person gets ignored? I often see it myself and it saddens my heart. I can understand why some ae reluctant to give homeless people any money as they have no idea what they are spending it on. In future if you see a homeless person, please offer them some food. Perhaps you can even ask them what they would like to eat.

10. Lift others up in prayer - it's free!

One of the best presents you can give to someone it prayer! Prayer not only covers, blesses and protects, but it shows that you have a heart of compassion. You care so much for others that when you are talking to God, you mention their name too. You want to see them prosper and there is nothing wrong with that!

Remember, "Those who oppress the poor insult their Maker, but helping the poor honors him."

- Proverbs 14:31

"Is it not to share your bread with the hungry and bring the homeless poor into your house; when you see the naked, to cover him, and not to hide yourself from your own flesh?"

- Isaiah 58:7

"But when you give a feast, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind, and you will be blessed, because they cannot repay you. For you will be repaid at the resurrection of the just.”

- Luke 14: 13-14

"Whoever is generous to the poor lends to the Lord, and he will repay him for his deed."

- Proverbs 19:17
